Los Mambiseros is a Traditional Cuban Music and Fusion project led by Cuban-American artist, educator, and curator Christopher Carlos Montejo. The project’s mission is to share and celebrate Cuba’s folkloric culture, music, and dance. Audiences are invited to learn about the history and present-day context of Cuba through experiencing Afro-Caribbean music and dancing together.

“Mambiseros” is a playful spelling of “mambíses,” the revolutionary guerrilla fighters from the Cuban Wars of Independence at the end of the 19th century. The mambíses were a grassroots, freedom-fighting force represented and led by diverse racial and social backgrounds. The project goes across time and aligns itself with the decolonial, unifying, and rebellious spirit of being mambí.
