Live music: Los Mambiseros

Los Mambiseros (@mambiseros) is a Traditional Cuban Music and Fusion project led by Cuban-American artist, educator, and curator Christopher Carlos Montejo (@chriscarlosmontejo). The project’s mission is to share and celebrate Cuba’s folkloric culture, music, and dance. Audiences are invited to learn about the history and present-day context of Cuba through experiencing Afro-Caribbean music and dancing together.

“Mambiseros” is a playful spelling of “mambíses,” the revolutionary guerrilla fighters from the Cuban Wars of Independence at the end of the 19th century. The mambíses were a grassroots, freedom-fighting force represented and led by diverse racial and social backgrounds. The project goes across time and aligns itself with the decolonial, unifying, and rebellious spirit of being mambí.

Live Music: Dina Fiorentini

The best way to describe my style is expressive classical improv piano music. I can play some featured works by renowned classical composers (Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy), and I routinely adapt the sounds to best satiate my musical desires. It is delightful to get lost in the satisfaction of a particular sound, then continue to dance around it to find other sounds that could enhance or deepen the experience. Playing music is imaginative, expressive, and explorative; I strive to share that excitement with any audience.
